Our Team

Calcourt Equestrian is a family-run endeavour, supported by a range of professionals within the industry.

A family business with years of industry experience & knowledge

Our team is fronted by Rowland and Ali Fernyhough. Rowland is an international showjumper with countless wins to his name.
Ali has multiple showing and working hunter championship wins from the UK’s most prestigious events. Their son, Joe, is the Calcourt Equestrian competition rider; an U25 National Champion who has been recognised for his talents, featuring on the Podium Potential Pathway Programme.

We are as PASSIONATE about our services as we are ABOUT horses.

As well as breeding and producing talented horses, we run a professional yet friendly livery yard. We offer both full and part livery packages. Rowland, Ali and Joe are all qualified, experienced and sympathetic coaches, able to provide coaching to any level of rider.

Former Olympic, European & Nations Cup team member, who also was appointed GBR Young Rider & Junior team trainer 1999-2008.

Showing and Working Hunter Champion at Horse of the Year Show, Royal International and Royal Windsor.
Joe Fernyhough

COMPETITION RIDER
Some noteworthy results of Joe’s career so far include National U25 Champion in 2021 and jumping double clear on the winning Nations Cup team in Gorla Minore.
Jake Reynolds

YOUNG HORSE RIDER
Jake spent 10yrs working for John & Wendy Mastin breaking & schooling horses for clients. Jake has a variety of experience competing showjumping, eventing & showing. Having broken our horses since 2021, in 2023 he moved to work for us full time, breaking & competing young horses.

FARRIER
Robbie works closely with the World Class team and has also won many farriery competitions including attending European Championships.

SPORTS VET
Spike works closely with the World Class Podium Potential Programme and now as the British Eventing Youth Performance Vet.

EQUINE PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Tim is a member of The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (ACPAT). He works with us here at Calcourt to keep the horses feeling their best.

What We Do

Both Joe and Jake have experience producing horses of all levels, from taking our string of talented youngsters to their first shows, to producing horses to Grand Prix level.
We run a successful breeding program from our stud in Montgomeryshire. We only breed from mares that we have competed ourselves, with good papers and using a range of proven stallions to guarantee quality. Between the ages of 3 and 4, our homebreds come to our main yard in Gloucester to be backed and begin their competitive careers.
Rowland, Ali and Joe are all qualified coaches. While they each have their own coaching style, all three are sympathetic and passionate about bringing out the best in any partnership. Coaching is available as an add-on to our full and part livery packages, or you can travel to our yard in Gloucester.
